Will Ferrell Shoots For Semi-Pro

Now that he’s taken off his ice skates after shooting Blades Of Glory, Will Ferrell isn’t letting go of the competitive spirit.

He’s signed on to star with Woody Harrelson in New Line’s new sports comedy Semi-Pro, the story of an owner//manager/player and his fictional basketball team struggling for success in the American Basketball Association (which apparently is – or was, it’s defunct now – a real sports league).

It’s been written by Scot Armstrong, who penned Old School, but the more interesting story is who’s directing – a former New Line executive named Kent Alterman. "I grew up in San Antonio, and I remember when an ABA team from Dallas moved in to become the San Antonio Spurs," Alterman told Variety. "I remember when Scot came in with his pitch, he said, 'How about doing a comedy set in the ABA?' That's all I needed to hear. Will was interested in it, and as we developed it further, it came together for me to direct."

And just how will he work with his colleagues and former fellow executives now that he’s a director? "I'm planning on having a very contentious relationship with them.” Oh, that wit!
