Wild Hogs Storm US Box Office

Mid-life motorbike crisis is number one

It seems that all a body has to do to reach number one at the US box office these days is to put on biking leathers, find yourself a Harley and make sure you get terrible reviews, because after two weeks of domination by Ghost Rider, this week's big box-office winner was Wild Hogs.

Starring John Travolta, Martin Lawrence, Tim Allen and William H. Macy as a group of middle-aged mid-life crisising bikers, the film is the third-highest March opening ever, behind the two Ice Age movies, and the highest ever road-trip opening weekend. Expect a sequel to be announced any minute.

The other big news release was Zodiac, the David Fincher serial-killer drama, which took a rather disappointing $13 million despite a wide opening, and Black Snake Moan, the Samuel L. Jackson-Christina Ricci nympho-chained-to-a-radiator movie, which proved a difficult sell and made only about half as much as director Craig Brewer's last exploitation film, Hustle and Flow (could be in with another shot at the Oscar for Best Song though, if you ask us).

And apart from that it was business as usual, with dreadful comedy Norbit still holding on at six after only a 34% drop, and Ghost Rider approaching the $100 million barrier.

And now, as the cartographer said, the charts!
