Forrest Whittaker, who has just finished up a superlative guest star stint on US cop show The Shield, has nabbed a role in Sony’s thriller Vantage Point.

The film already stars William Hurt and Lost’s Matthew Fox and tells of an attempt to assassinate the US President while one a trip to Madrid. The previously announced film takes a Rashomon approach, with the story told from five points of view, each given 15 minutes to unfold.

Whittaker will play an American tourist who unwittingly films the would-be assassin with his video camera. Peter Travis, of TV movie Omagh, will direct the movie shortly.
