Westworld S3 Trailer grab

Westworld's second season ended in confusing style, with Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and several of the artificially intelligent "hosts" escaping the futuristic theme park intent on taking the fight against humanity to the real world. We're promised that the third season will have a more straightforward narrative through-line, but the latest trailer for the show, launched at the Comic-Con panel, mostly offers cool visuals.

While we do indeed see Dolores in the real world along with whoever is occupying the copy of Tessa Thompson's Charlotte Hale, the story isn't leaving Westworld the park behind entirely, as Thandie Newton's Maeve Millay has made it to another sector – World War II world! Yes, Maeve gets to punch Nazis, and we couldn't be happier with that.

Dolores, meanwhile, knows she has to stay one step ahead of a paranoid humanity, but it appears she'll have to rely on the kindness of at least one of them (Aaron Paul's construction worker Caleb) when she runs afoul of someone dangerous. There are also glimpses of Jeffrey Wright's Bernard, seemingly on a mission to stop Dolores, and a new character played by Vincent Cassel. While the outside world seems shiny, don't be fooled by appearances, according to co-show-runner Jonathan Nolan. "Dystopia can look pretty beautiful in the world. Just because the world is corrupt inside, doesn’t mean it can’t be smothered over and pretty. We wanted to find a version of dystopia that we hadn’t seen before."

Westworld doesn't have a set return date, but we can expect it next year.
