Welcome To Cut Throat City

Heist story set in New Orleans

When a film is announced as “the first post-Hurricane Katrina film with social relevance” the day after a movie about socially conscious American Footballers gets its turn in the spotlight, you have to feel bad for the filmmakers.

Still, Cut Throat City will be something quite different. Music video director Aaron Courseault is switching to films for the New Orleans-set City, which will apparently star local rappers Lil Wayne and Baby (silliest. Rapper name. Ever.)

The plot is apparently the tale of a heist crew that starts in the decimated Lower Ninth Ward area and travels north.

"This will be one of the first fictional narratives that deals with the tragedy of the government's response to Katrina," producer Braxton Pope told The Hollywood Reporter, "and the movie will be seen through the cultural lens of the residents of the Lower Ninth Ward, one of the most devastated areas. There is a great movie in the culture of New Orleans that you don't see advertised in the city's tourism PR kit. This film isn't about voodoo and vampires. It's an authentic, specific fable about the hustling life in the city."
