Even before he scored an Emmy nomination in Tuesday's announcements, WandaVision director Matt Shakman was seeing his professional stock rise again thanks to his work on the Marvel/Disney+. Now Paramount has offered him the directorial captain's chair on its next planned Star Trek film, and Shakman has signed on.
With JJ Abrams on board to produce and a script that, according to Deadline is currently credited to Chaos Walking's Lindsey Beer and Captain Marvel's Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the studio is looking to quickly get this one in motion, with a plan to start shooting next spring. No details about potential storylines have emerged so far, no do we know whether this will reunite the cast from the most recent three Star Trek movies, which starred Chris Pine as Captain Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Mr. Spock, though that would seem to be the plan.
It's a busy and slightly confusing time in Paramount's big screen Trek development cycle, with projects from Quentin Tarantino and Noah Hawley seemingly drifting in limbo and another, from Star Trek: Discovery alumna Kalinda Vazquez at an early stage, only time will tell what actually moves forward. Shakman's hiring, however, points to his project actually gaining momentum.
