We've known for a while that Alicia Vikander would be exploring ruins and caves and the like as the new Lara Croft in the latest movie adaptation of the Tomb Raider games. She'll face some crafty opposition in the shape of Walton Goggins.

The Wave's Roar Uthaug is in the director's chair for the film, which will focus on the early adventures of the character twice brought to the screen by Angelina Jolie. The plot is being kept in a safe, though Geneva Robertson-Dworet has been writing the script, and it'll apparently feature Lara trying to clear her father's name.

Variety's story on Goggins' casting doesn't mention exactly how he'll factor into the story, beyond being the antagonist. He's been carving out some solid roles in the last few years, including on TV for The Shield and Justified and Vice Principals. Cinema-wise, he's been seen in movies such as Django Unchained and The Hateful Eight.

The new Tomb Raider is taking aim at a 16 March, 2018 release, so expect to start shooting early next year.
