Wall Street Oscar Poopers

Journal publishes 'that' poll

Despite the threat of legal intervention from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences, the Wall Street Journal is going ahead and publishing its exit poll of Academy members. The newspaper eventually persuaded 356 members to reveal who and what they voted for - a scant 7% of the total membership. Perhaps what's more interesting are the poll's runners-up lists. Unlike the Journal, the Academy only reveals the winners - it doesn't list how close other contenders came to winning. Whether this year's poll marks the beginning of an annual spoiler from Wall Street is anyone's guess, but the failure of the newspaper to get anything like a deciding section of members to reveal their votes means that we'll all still have to wait till the early hours of the morning to find out who's won what. Oscars 2000 Coverage To see the results as they come in, join the Empire team in the early hours of Monday morning as our extensive coverage of Oscars 2000 commences. We'll be listing the winners as they accept their awards and there will be pictures, a news round-up and gossip from the after-show parties up on site by the beginning of the working day in London.
