Walden Media Sees The Dark Is Rising

A new children's fantasy

Narnia producer Walden Media is continuing on its quest to make every kiddie fantasy book ever written into a film.

The latest target of their dream factory is Susan Cooper’s The Dark Is Rising, part one of a five-book series (possible franchise alert!) that follows a boy who discovers that he has a special ability. He’s a Sign Seeker, the last (naturally) of a group of immortals sworn to fight the obligatory dark forces encroaching upon the land. Just once we’d like to see a fantasy character’s destiny turn out to entail cleaning the grease traps at KFC.

Director David Cunningham is already on a plane to Romania, ready to prepare the film for an early 2007 shoot.
