Daniel Day-Lewis is keen to play Irish playwright Samuel Beckett in a biopic set to go into production next year. Day-Lewis, who played paraplegic Irish writer Christy Brown in 1989's My Left Foot, lives in Ireland and holds an Irish passport. Producer Noel Pearson, who worked with Day-Lewis on My Left Foot told The Daily Express that Day-Lewis was his first choice to play the reclusive author of Waiting For Godot and Krapp's Last Tape. The film will be based on Anthony Cronin's biography of Beckett, who was born in Dublin and died aged 83 in 1989. Day-Lewis's last film was 1997's The Boxer, and he is currently filming Martin Scorsese's Gangs Of New York with Leonardo DiCaprio.
