When Lin-Manuel Miranda's name arrived attached to something musical, there's a certain level of expectation that follows in the wake of In The Heights, Moana and a little stage show about the founding fathers that got to be a bit popular. So hopes are high for his latest foray into entertainment for families with Sony and Netflix's Vivo. The film is now launching next month and has a brand new clip online featuring Miranda doing what he does best...
Vivo is the story of a one-of-kind kinkajou, voiced by Miranda, who spends his days playing music to the crowds in a lively square with his beloved owner Andrés (Juan de Marcos). Though they may not speak the same language, Vivo and Andrés are the perfect duo through their common love of music.
But when tragedy strikes shortly after Andrés receives a letter from the famous Marta Sandoval (Gloria Estefan), inviting her old partner to her farewell concert with the hope of reconnecting, it’s up to Vivo to deliver a message that Andrés never could: A love letter to Marta, written long ago, in the form of a song. Yet in order to get to Marta, who lives a world apart, Vivo will need the help of Gabi (Ynairaly Simo) – an energetic tween who bounces to the beat of her own offbeat drum to fulfill his owner’s wishes.
The clip finds Vivo and Gabi floating through the Florida Everglades, territory that Vivo is definitely not used to despite his animal nature.
Vivo, directed by Kirk DeMicco and written by the director alongside Heights theatre book creator/film scribe Quiara Alegría Hudes, also features the voices of Zoe Saldaña, Michael Rooker, Brian Tyree Henry and Nicole Byer. It'll land on Netflix on 6 August.
