Though the US box office for xXx: Return Of Xander Cage weren't exactly stellar, the worldwide take – particularly from China – saved the day. Vin Diesel now decided to continue, and has gone so far as to buy the rights to the franchise so he can have a bigger role in steering its future. He's now brought back director DJ Caruso for a fourth movie.

Diesel, who also owns the rights to the Riddick franchise, hatched a deal with finance company H Collective to purchase the xXx series from Revolution Studios.

There is no information yet on what the new movie's story will be, but you can hazard a guess that Diesel's extreme sports nut-turned-not-always-secret-agent Cage will have to face down some terrible threat. Caruso and Diesel was to be shooting by December this year. We don't expect the Rock to make a cameo.
