Venice Film Festival Reveals Entries

The 63rd Venice Film festival starts up on August 30, and there are several American films competing for its highest award - The Golden Lion.

Among them is Brian De Palma’s latest, true-crime thriller The Black Dahlia, based on James Ellroy’s novel, which stars Josh Hartnett, Scarlett Johansson and Aaron Eckhart.

But De Palma will have some serious competition, in the form of Steven Frears’ The Queen, which takes a fictional look behind the scenes of the political wrangling that followed Princess Diana’s death. And there’s also sci-fi, in the form of Darren Aronofsky’s The Fountain and Alfonso Cuaron’s Children Of Men.

We’ve printed the competition list below – but you can find the full list of all films to be screened at the Venice site here.
