Christoph Waltz has been planning to direct a film for a while now; he was developing a romantic comedy back in 2015. But that same year, he switched to try to set up a tale of wealth and murder and has started to put the pieces together. Vanessa Redgrave will co-star with him in Georgetown.

David Auburn has written the script based on the real-life story reported in the New York Times Magazine by Franklin Foer called The Worst Marriage In Georgetown.

It explores the story of Albrecht Muth (Waltz), a strange, cunning social-climber who married an older widow called Viola Drath (Redgrave). Though seemingly a happy couple that threw big parties at their lavish home, there was a dark side, one that came out when Drath was found murdered and the revelations about Muth’s lies were pushed into the light of day. You can read the original piece here, though it appears the film will alter a few details, including calling Redgrave's character Elsa Drath.

Waltz will shoot the film this summer in Montreal and the distribution rights will be up for sale at the Cannes Film Market next week.
