Barely a week after it hit cinemas, Underworld has secured not one but two possible follow-ups. After a surprisingly respectable box office debut ($21.8 million in the States), the film has been given the option to become a trilogy with writers Danny McBride and Len Wiseman returning to write the script and Wiseman once more scheduled to direct. The second film would doubtless pick up where the first film left off, with the war between vampires and werewolves hanging in the balance, while the third film is thought likely to be a prequel. The rather fetching star of the film, Kate Beckinsale, has yet to be confirmed, however in a recent interview with Empire Online she revealed that, despite a bout of pneumonia, making the film was the best experience of her life and, given a workable script, she'd jump at the chance to slip back in to the latex vamp suit.
