Mr and Mrs Madonna must be laughing their faces off at the storm in a TV cup that the duo's first professional collaboration has caused. The British director's music video debut for his wife's latest release has been met with a storm of controversy over its violent content. Both MTV and video channel VH1 have announced that they would screen the video only once - in effect banning it. So what exactly is all the fuss about? Precious little really. The video for What It Feels Like For A Girl shows Madonna being a naughty girl, brandishing what turns out to be a toy gun at a policeman and then killing herself in a car crash. In her own words, Madonna plays 'a nihilistic pissed-off chick'. The words you hear at the beginning of the film are spoken by Charlotte Gainsbourg in the film The Cement Garden. To catch the video, tune into Channel 4 at 11.05pm tonight (Wed 21 March 2001).
