Weirdest rumour ever!

Tyler Perry In Star Trek?

On a scale of one to weird, this is definitely at the top end of the scale. Tyler Perry, he of Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Madea's Family Reunion fame, is apparently appearing in JJ Abrams' Star Trek XI as the head of Star Fleet Academy.

Perry's had a huge amount of success over the past few years with a series of Christian-tinged African-American drama-comedies - in many of which he appears in drag as ballsy grandmother Madea. But he's either a closet Trekkie or Abrams is a fan, for he's signed on for a small but significant role. For a spoilerific breakdown of exactly what role he plays, check the link to UGO above, but otherwise we can tell you that it links in to the legendary Kobayashi Maru test recounted in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Trekkers should be able to work out the rest, if they care to.

Perry's apparently already filmed the role, the first outside one of his own projects. So, anyone a fan? Excited to hear about his casting? Or more excited to see that there's a nice link to existing Trek lore about Kirk's early career?
