Two More Pacific Rim Stills Stomp In

The drip feed of new imagery from Guillermo del Toro’s massive monster mash Pacific Rim continues apace today with two fresh images, which arrive via a gateway from another place. Or, as we like to call it, the web – specifically, the gang at Coming Soon.

Continuing the “destruction on a huge scale” theme of yesterday’s images, the first of the two new pics is titled “We will rebuild the city around its bones," with the stark image of a slain Kaiju overshadowed by construction work. The other shows hazmat-suited workers clearing up the aftermath of a battle.

The film allows del Toro to unleash a world where Kaiju – huge creatures that find their way to our shores from a dimensional portal in the ocean – attack humanity, leading to the construction of giant robot fighters called Jaegers. But the constant combat has worn down the Earth forces and even the Jaegers and their pilots are fading as the relentless Kaiju keep coming. Mankind must turn to a washed-up pilot (Charlie Hunnam) and a rookie recruit (Rinko Kikuchi) to make one last stab at saving the species.

Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Clifton Collins Jr and Ron Perlman are among the cast for the film, which touches down here on July 12. Before you watch it, why not check out our 10 Films To See Before Pacific Rim feature and what we learned from the latest trailer? Talking of...
