Following on from Luca, which saw someone dealing with parental issues and facing inconvenient transformations, we have Turning Red, which handles some similar themes but in a very different way, and represents another original film from the Pixar team. The first teaser trailer is online...

Written and directed by Domee Shi, who won an Oscar for Pixar-produced short Bao (which also handled parent/child themes through an Asian lens), Turning Red focuses on Mei Lee (Rosalie Chiang), a confident, dorky 13-year-old torn between staying her mother’s dutiful daughter and the chaos of adolescence. And as if changes to her interests, relationships and body weren’t enough, whenever she gets too excited, she “poofs” into a giant red panda.

Killing Eve's Sandra Oh plays Ming, the mum in question, who is seen in the teaser spying on her daughter at school and causing Mei Lee's latest transformation and a Backstreet Boys tune to break out. Turning Red will be in UK cinemas on 11 March next year.
