We haven't heard a great deal about the follow-up to **Tron Legacy **since we spoke to its director Joseph Kosinski back in April. While it continues to light-bike around the 90 degree corners of development, its writer Jesse Wigutow has found time for another gig. He's adapting Brian Michael Bendis' indie graphic novel **Fire, for a film being set up by Bendis himself and Zac Efron.
Efron is already attached to star as a college student CIA recruit who stumbles on the unfortunate truth that he's being set up as cannon fodder. One of Bendis' first big works before the days of Daredevil, Alias, The New Avengers and so on, it was loosely based on facts uncovered about the Reagan administration. Bendis and Efron sold the project to Universal at Sundance in 2010.
Wigutow is one of those high-profile hot young screenwriters who haven't actually had much produced yet. Alongside Tron Legacy, he's turned out screenplays for the fantasy Peter And The Starcatchers, war movie Irreparable Harm, and Robert Ludlum adaptation The Osterman Weekend (previously filmed in the '80s by Sam Peckinpah). He was also one of approximately 97 writers who had a crack at the Crow reboot.
Fast & Furious franchise producers Neil H. Moritz and Toby Jaffe are part of the team overseeing Fire's journey to the screen, with Efron and Jason Barrett exec producing. Efron's production company Ninjas Runnin' Wild (no, really) is also in the mix along with Original Films.
Without a completed screenplay or attached director, there's obviously no start date yet. In the meantime, Bendis' original graphic novel is published by Icon.
