The Lego Batman Movie is about to arrive, bringing the pint-sized Caped Crusader back to our screens and re-introducing the Lego universe to the world. But there has been a change in the direct sequel to the first Lego Movie, as Rob Schrab has left the film and Trolls director Mike Mitchell has stepped into his place.

The follow-up to the 2014 hit has been development for a while by the Warner Animation Group Brain Trust and was originally handed to Chris McKay, animation director and editor on the original, who then moved to do Lego Batman. TV veteran Schrab came next, but he's since departed due to "creative differences".

Nothing has been said about the plot for the sequel, but Phil Lord and Chris Miller wrote the first draft of the script, which has since seen work from BoJack Horseman's Raphael Bob-Waksberg and, more recently, Matt Fogel.

The Lego Movie Sequel will be with us on 8 February 2019. The Lego Ninjago Movie arrives on 13 October this year.
