Trolls 2 In The Works

DreamWorks Animation's Trolls

With its box office success ($339.5 million and counting worldwide) and Oscar-nominated song, it was perhaps only a matter of time before DreamWorks Animation decided that a sequel to Trolls might be something it wants to get moving on. And so it has come to pass, with the follow-up targeting an April 2020 release date.

The first film featured Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake as two of the tufty-haired creatures with very different outlooks on life: Poppy is an eternal optimist with a song almost always on her lips; Branch is more the curmudgeonly type. Naturally, they have to find a way to work together to rescue their fellow trolls from the nasty, hungry Bergens.

Nothing has been announced about the film yet besides that planned date, and the fact that the leads will return to supply the vocals. More up in the air is the name of the director, since Mike Mitchell recently signed on to make the Lego Movie sequel, with that movie due in 2019. As for the plot, we'd suggest seeing the creatures heading into the Internet to take on trolls there. Too close to the bone?
