The cast for post-apocalyptic thriller Bird Box just swelled. Director Susanne Bier has recruited Trevante Rhodes, Sarah Paulson, Jacki Weaver, Lil Rel Howery, Rosa Salazar and Patti Cake$ star Danielle Macdonald to join Sandra Bullock and John Malkovich.
While none of the new arrivals' characters are listed in Variety's report on the casting bonanza, the film will follow a mother (Bullock) and her two young children are among the survivors after an alien invasion drives a large swathe of the Earth's population to bloody violence, sparked by simply looking at one of the creatures.
Facing a perilous 20 mile journey on a small rowing boat while blindfolded, the family will have to rely on her wits and her children's trained ears. Arrival's Eric Heisserer adapted the script from Josh Malerman's 2014 novel, and the film has been in development for a while, first at Universal and now for Netflix.
