Trailer For The Mechanic Online

It doesn't have a distributor yet, so technically this is a trailer designed to drum up industry interest rather than one intended for public consumption. But whatever. Here's Jason Statham kicking some new ass in Simon West's The Mechanic*. And the world is a happy place once more.

The film is a remake of a Charles Bronson vehicle, directed by Michael Winner in 1972, about an elite hitman who finds himself training the son of one of his victims. There are consequences. The Stath is in the Bronson role obviously, and the noob this time around (it was Airwolf's Jan-Michael Vincent before) is Ben Foster. Donald Sutherland is also on hand.

It's all looking like solid crunchy fun along Transporter / Shooter lines so far, and its action pedigree is reasonable. There's Statham, of course; West directed Con Air; and Foster was a good villain in 3:10 to Yuma and an amusing, Garth Ennis-faithful Spacker Dave in The Punisher.

No distributor means no release date yet, but we can't imagine this will be on the shelf for long.

*Not to be confused with The Mechanik, Dolph Lundgren's unofficial sequel to Red Scorpion.
