In a season where the perpetual handing out of laurels and resulting smug grins can become a wee bit tiresome, it comes as a welcome breath of fresh air when the Golden Raspberries arrive. Celebrating the worst of the previous year's cinematic offal, the Razzies always administer an amusing drubbing and this year it's turkey par excellence Gigli that has swept the nominations. Blazing a trail with no less than nine separate nods, Martin Brest's critically slammed feature received nominations for Worst Film, Worst Actor, Worst Actress, Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Screen Couple, Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and even struck a blow against Oscar-winners and screen legends Al Pacino and Christopher Walken, both tipped for Worst Supporting Actor. A veritable train wreck it was, but it wasn't alone. The Cat In The Hat was one nomination shy of joining Gigli, narrowly missing the mark with a total of eight. Of the three heroines in Charlie's Angels 2, both Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz will be competing for Worst Actress (Lucy Liu is clearly the only one to emerge from that film unscathed). Ben Affleck saw his Worst Actor nod split three ways, so unimpressed were the judges by his performances in Gigli, Daredevil and Paycheck, though he shouldn't feel too bad as both Cuba Gooding Jr and Ashton Kutcher shared similar trios of indignity for their own performances. Finally, hats should come off for all-time Razzie champ Sylvester Stallone, who this year receives his thirtieth nomination, gaining recognition for no less than five appalling performances in the same film.
