In a move that once more tramples over such overrated concepts as freedom of expression, self-determination and letting people think for themselves, China has banned Tomb Raider 2 for being mean about the country. The Chinese authorities decreed the film unacceptable, declaring it a Western attempt to defame their homeland. "After watching the movie, I feel that the westerners have made their presentation of China with malicious intention," said a Chinese official. "The movie does not understand Chinese culture. It does not understand China's security situation. In China there cannot be secret societies." The offending segment would appear to be Lara's conflict with Chinese crime syndicate, the Chen Lo, who are instrumental in helping the film's villain achieve his evil ends. The film was categorically condemned for damaging China's reputation and giving the impression of a country in chaos, with no government and overrun by secret societies. Yes, that's exactly what we were thinking all through the film. Mentalists.
