Now they've firmly left Marvel territory behind (though they keep working with castmembers from the movies, including on this one), directors Joe and Anthony Russo are plugging ahead with their own projects. The first directorial effort out of the gate is Cherry, starring Tom Holland. The brothers put a first look at footage from the film via Twitter.

Cherry, which was adapted by Angela Russo-Otstot and Jessica Goldberg from Nico Walker's book, parallels the true life story of the author. Holland stars in the title role as an unhinged character who drifts from dropping out of college to serving in Iraq as an Army medic and is only anchored by his one true love, Emily (Ciara Bravo). When Cherry returns home a war hero, he battles the demons of undiagnosed PTSD and spirals into drug addiction, surrounding himself with a menagerie of depraved misfits. Draining his finances, Cherry turns to bank robbing to fund his addiction, shattering his relationship with Emily along the way. Walker, who also turned to crime, was caught in 2011 and scored early release in October 2019, ready to re-enter life and experience everything 2020 had to offer. Um...

The film is going to be released on 26 February in US cinemas (those that are open, of course) ahead of a 12 March launch on Apple TV+.
