You might recall that Legendary Entertainment took to the San Diego Comic-Con stage this year to announce it was making a return to Skull Island to explore the origins of a one Mr. K. Kong, the ape of legend. Now we know that Tom Hiddleston will be starring in the film, and that** Kings Of Summer** director Jordan Vogt-Roberts is directing it.

No plot details have been released so far, though Godzilla man Max Borenstein has been hard at work on a script that takes a trip to the famous rocky landscape and promises to find massive creatures and other dangers lurking around. Vogt-Roberts represents the latest attempt by Legendary to give a director known for indie movies the keys to a blockbuster, following in the footsteps of Gareth Edwards.

How Hiddleston fits in is a mystery for now, though we’re guessing he’ll be a dashing adventurer heading to the island in the hope of capturing evidence or a beast itself to make his fortune/reputation/because he really wants a giant ape as a pet. We imagine that the expedition will not go well, since Skull Island has disappeared into legend by the time of the original film. But hopefully everyone gets home safe and they just agree never to discuss the whole mess again.

Other than that, all we know at the moment is that the film will arrive in cinema via Universal on November 4, 2016.

Hiddleston is currently preparing for Hank Williams biopic** I Saw The Light** and has most recently finished a lead role on Ben Wheatley’s latest, High-Rise. He’ll also be part of the cast for Legendary’s Guillermo del Toro horror Crimson Peak, due to haunt cinemas on October 16 next year.

Vogt-Roberts, meanwhile, directed several episodes of US telly sitcom You’re The Worst and is also attached to make a Metal Gear Solid adaptation for Sony and a TV movie called Cocked. Those will, presumably, have to wait until this is done.
