His most famous literary creations have graced the big screen over the last 20 years, and now it’s time for J.R.R Tolkien’s own story to get the cinematic treatment. The legendary fantasy author behind the Middle-earth saga has a new biopic, simply titled Tolkien, starring Nicholas Hoult as the man himself. The film follows the writer from his childhood as an orphan, through to his time at Oxford falling for Lily Collins’ Edith, to his time fighting at the Somme in World War I, Finnish director Dome Karukoski charts the life that led to those incredible novels.
Empire has an exclusive clip from the film, showing a conversation between Tolkien and Edith as she encourages him to imagine a fantasy world.
