Stage fright for Figgis and Burrows

There was a full house at the Timecode UK premiere in London this Sunday (13 August) but director Mike Figgis and star Saffron Burrows weren't in the mood to enjoy it. The movie, which tells four separate stories projected simultaneously, was accompanied last night by a live sound mix from Figgis. It was Figgis's second go at the mix - the first was in America - but the director admitted to Empire Online that he was 'absolutely terrified'. Figgis's partner Saffron Burrows, who also stars in the movie, explained that her nerves were down to the home venue. 'It's more nerve-wracking having a premiere in London,' she said. 'It's your home town and all your friends are there.' She was more than happy to promote Time Code, scotching ideas that the radical filming techniques might make the movie a hard sell. 'I think it's a deeply commercial film,' she told us, 'and I'm not usually a fan of commercial films. But I think the most exciting thing is the fact that there are no edits - it's a live film. Premiere-goers got a glimpse of Burrow's well-publicised socialist leanings when the actress objected to having her picture taken for the Daily Express newspaper. 'I'm sure you're a lovely man,' Burrows told the Express photographer, 'but it's such a right wing and horrible newspaper.'
