Actor/director Rufus Norris usually plies his directing trade in the theatre, but he’s switching to film for an adaptation of Daniel Clay’s novel Broken. And he’s gathered a solid cast for the resulting drama, with Tim Roth and Cillian Murphy heading up the ensemble{ =nofollow}.

Clay’s book follows what happens when a young North London girl witness a violent attack. Though she’s not the victim, the situation leads to her life being thrown into chaos.

In addition to Roth and Murphy, the film will feature the likes of Rory Kinnear, Robert Emms, Zana Marjanovic, Bill Milner and newcomer Eloise Laurence in the role of the heroine.

Having originally been developed by BBC Films, the movie is now under the auspices of Cuba Pictures, and has been partly funded by the BFI Film Fund.

Working from a script by Mark O’ Rowe, Norris kicks off shooting later this month in London. Roth will next be seen in financial drama Arbitrage, while Murphy will show up in Retreat, **In Time **and Red Lights.
