With Melissa McCarthy nowofficially a part of the MCU, that casts a different light on this upcoming super-spoof, which sees McCarthy and Octavia Spencer gain powers. See the new Thunder Force trailer below.

Here's the basic setup: In a world terrorized by super-villains, one woman has developed the process to give superpowers to regular people. But when scientist Emily Stanton (Spencer) accidentally imbues her estranged best friend (McCarthy's Lydia) with incredible abilities, the two women must become the first superhero team. Now, it is up to Thunder Force to battle the super-powered Miscreants and save Chicago from the clutches of The King (Bobby Cannavale).

This is the second genre-based effort from McCarthy and regular collaborator/husband Ben Falcone, following Superintelligence. This time, Falcone writes, directs and pops up for his obligatory small role, here being stopped in his shop-robbing tracks by the two leads, to painful effect.

Thunder Force features plenty of cracks at superhero movies of yore (nice Batman Forever cut there), and could be a fun take on the idea. Jason Bateman, Melissa Leo, Pom Klementieff (also no stranger to superheroics) and Sarah Baker are all in the cast for the film, which still has "coming soon" listed, though the trailer has 9 April as the release date,
