Third Alexander The Great Is Cast

It's all Greek to us

You'd think that two films about the Grecian conqueror would be more than enough, but no, a third film has just cast the role and will be following in its larger siblings' footsteps. We'll forgive you for having never heard of Sam Heughan, but this newcomer will join such lofty contemporaries as Colin Farrell and Leonardo DiCaprio, starring as Alexander in Macedonia's Alexander The Great. With competition from such luminaries as Baz Luhrmann and Oliver Stone, most directors wouldn't come within a spear's length of this particular period in history but Jalal Merhi seems to have no such compunctions. Still, with Luhrmann's take on the epic stalled indefinitely, Merhi's take on the legend (which he hopes to be the first of a trilogy charting Alexander's life) may not be such an outlandish idea. And speaking of Alexander, Oliver Stone's considerably up-scaled production is coming along nicely with an interesting fact revealed this week to the LA Times. Apparently, rumours that Farrell sounds like an Irish bus driver in the film are true after all - and quite intentional. Farrell will speak in a slightly toned down version of his own lilt, as will a number of his allies. "These men were Macedonians, not cultivated Greeks," Stone told the newspaper. "It seemed to me they occupied a similar position that the Irish and Scots did to the English in the British Empire" Surely everyone knows that historical leaders always speak the Queen's English in a delightful Home Counties manner - what could Stone be thinking? But if you think that's daft then we bid you cast your eyes over Farrell's mop in the image below, as it's sure to put a smile upon your face. Not a look to be proud of and why Angelina's dressed as Xena is anyone's guess.
