Charlize Theron is in talks to join Tom Cruise in The Tourist, a remake of the twisty-turny 2005 French film Anthony Zimmer. It's set to be directed by Bharat Nalluri, who most recently handled Miss Pettigrew Lives For A Day.

The film would see Theron play an Interpol agent trying to track down a fugitive criminal with whom she once had an affair with the unsuspecting aid of an ordinary guy on holiday (Cruise).

It sounds like there have been some changes to the French film, wherein Sophie Marceau's femme fatale was the one under police surveillance, who latched on to a schmuck who had a similar build to her moneylaundering boyfriend to set the police on the wrong track after said boyfriend had radical facial reconstrctive surgery.

But whatever the plot, expect this script to be extremely witty and mannered, since it was written by Gosford Park's Julian Fellowes and, since it's had another draft by Christopher "The Usual Suspects" McQuarrie, tense and surprising too. McQuarrie, of course, also recently wrote Tom Cruise's latest film,Valkyrie, as well.

Production's due to start in March, so watch this space for further news till then.
