In a year when we've already had the wonderful The Mitchells Vs. The Machines and the sprightly Ron's Gone Wrong, the idea that someone would still want to make a robot uprising film is a surprising one. And yet, the team behind Meebo And Me – which includes Warner Bros. and The Grinch director Scott Mosier –thinks they can still mine something fresh.

Matt Lieberman, who co-wrote this year's Ryan Reynolds pic Free Guy, crafted Meebo as a spec script, which Warners bought back in April. The story follows a divorced dad goes through great lengths to get his son the hot new toy, an adorable robot. But when the other toy robots rise up against their owners, the dad and his defective robot set out to save his son and the world while building a profound friendship along the way. Which does, to us, sound an awful lot like a crossbreed of Mitchells and Ron's Gone Wrong.

Still, Mosier has a good reputation as a producer and more recently a director, having kicked off his career alongside Kevin Smith, and moving into animation with the likes of Free Birds and the 2018 Seuss tale.
