After a wave of casting announcements, and despite set pics of vehicles and cameras earlier this month, co-writer/director Matt Reeves has marked the official start of work on The Batman with a post on Twitter showing a slate from the movie propped against a plush leather chair..

Working alongside cinematographer Greig Fraser (and shooting in 2:39:1, aspect ratio fans!), Reeves has Robert Pattinson playing Bruce Wayne (and his typically throaty masked alter ego), Zoë Kravitz as Selina "Catwoman" Kyle, Colin Farrell as The Penguin, Paul Dano as The Riddler, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, John Turturro as crime boss Carmine Falcone and Peter Sarsgaard in a mystery role (with speculation swirling that he's Harvey Dent/Two-Face).

Beyond the obvious story of Batman battling crime in Gotham City, much of Reeves' approach remains under wraps. He's busy shooting in London and Leavesden, and is using Glasgow to stand in for much of the famed metropolis. The film itself will arrive on 25 June next year.
