As could have been predicted given his choices for the two Planet Of The Apes movies he made, Matt Reeves is picking an eclectic cast to surround main man Robert Pattinson in The Batman. And Reeves took to twitter to announce the latest addition, using a gif of John Turturro in The Big Lebowski to anoint him as the new Carmine Falcone.

The crime boss character has been a part of the Bat-stories since his introduction in Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli's Batman: Year One four-parter in 1987. He was most recently portrayed on the big screen by Tom Wilkinson in Batman Begins.

Turturro joins a cast that already includes Pattinson as Bruce Wayne, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Zoë Kravitz as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, Paul Dano as Edward Nashton/The Riddler, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Jim Gordon, Jayme Lawson as an unknown character and, assuming his deal closes, Colin Farrell as Oswald Cobblepot/The Penguin.

Reeves wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin, and has regular collaborator Michael Giacchino on score chores. The cameras should start rolling early next year in the UK, and The Batman is scheduled for release on 25 June, 2021.
