Who do you hire to play Nelson Mandela in his younger days? If you answered “Morgan Freeman in CG-assisted de-aging make-up a la X-Men: The Last Stand”, bzzzzt! Wrong. Try Terrence Howard.

He’s signed up to portray Mandela in the biopic of his controversial wife Winnie, with Jennifer Hudson already locked in to play the lead role.

It’s all based on Marie du Preez Bezdrob’s book Winnie Mandela: A Life, and Darrell James Roodt will kick off filming at the end of the month.

Producers have also announced that in the sequel, the role of Nelson Mandela will be played by Don Cheadle*.

*Not a fact.
