Soderbergh joins indie maestros

Although the undisputed king of U.S. independent cinema had vowed not to go near a camera for another year after he completes work on the spacey Solaris, Steven Soderbergh has completed a nifty about turn after the chance to work with the cre de la crème of world cinema popped up. His indie sensibilties could not resist the temptation of collaborating with revered Italian genius Michelangelo Antonioni – whose hugely influential work includes 1960's L'Avventura and the legendary Blowup - and Hong Kong auteur, Wong Kar-Wai whose most recent success was the gorgeous In the Mood for Love. Soderbergh will replace Talk to Her director Pedro Almodovar as the third director in this terrific triumvirate of filmmakers creating three tales about human love and sexuality. Almodovar will apparently still contribute, however, by constructing a "visual framework" in which these geniuses can create. While not your bog-standard popcorn flick by any means, this one promises great things.
