America may be slowing down before the July 4 holiday, but there was a lot of activity at the box office this weekend. The primary battle was the raunch-fest face-off between Seth McFarlane’s first stab at cinematic comedy with Ted and Steven Soderbergh and Channing Tatum slightly nekkid Magic Mike. The result? They were both winners, with Ted ending up in first place and putting $54.1 million in its piggy bank and Mike placing second with $39.1 million in its (apparently very stretchy) thong string.

The two healthy earners meant that Pixar’s Brave dropped to third, but it still managed a decent $34 million in its second weekend. That was more than enough to keep ahead of the week’s third new entry, Tyler Perry’s Madea’s Witness Protection. While this might seem to indicate that the bloom is a little off the rose of Perry’s screechy, preachy female fat suit character, the latest outing still managed to nab $26.3 million for fourth place. At fifth, Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted corralled $11.8 million.

Staked by terrible word of mouth, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter began to fall down the charts, landing in sixth place with $6 million. Prometheus dropped to seventh, earning $4.9 million, while Moonrise Kingdom added screens in its sixth week and snuck back into the top 10 at eighth with $4.8 million. Snow White And The Huntsman was ninth with $4.4 million and bringing up the rear was the fourth wide new entry of the week,** People Like Us**. The family drama limped home with $4.3 million, which isn’t exactly a stellar start. Especially considering it launched in a healthy 2,055 cinemas…
