Between the critical reactions to John Carter, Battleship and Savages, Taylor Kitsch might want to forget the year 2012 happened. Still, he’s picked himself up, dusted himself off and is still working away. According to Bloody Disgusting, the actor has just signed on to star in Exit 147.

Julian Jarrold (Kinky Boots, Red Riding 1974) is attached to direct the film, written by Pandorum’s Travis Malloy. The basic plot finds a bloke driving across the desert at night who gets arrested by a sadistic small-town sheriff (Kitsch).

Held captive in a crazed, bloody game, the man must survive as the corrupt lawman puts him through the wringer. Assuming he really is playing the sheriff (which would be a change from his usual gruff heroic types), it sounds as though Kitsch will be bringing us a twisted take on small-town boy Tim Riggins.

Before that, however, he’ll appear in Peter Berg’s Navy SEAL film Lone Survivor and Don McKellar’s comedy The Grand Seducti****on, which is shooting right now.
