It’s good to know that Lautner is not the only Taylor getting plenty of big gigs around Hollywood: Taylor Kitsch, currently busy starring in John Carter Of Mars, has landed the lead in Peter Berg’s adaptation of the Battleship board game.
Kitsch will play Alex Hopper, a "wildly spirited" Naval commander who has to lead an international fleet of sea-going ships in the fight against a watery alien armada that has arrived on Earth for nefarious purposes.
The Heat Vision Blog notes that while Jeremy Renner had been hotly timed for the commanding role, scheduling issues prevented him taking the part.
Jon and Eric Hoeber’s script apparently also features strong roles for a female lead and a Japanese commander.
With a 2012 release date locked and loaded, Battleship will launch its first filming salvo this year.
