If the BAFTAs led to a lot of disappointment in its less-than-diverse nominees list, the same cannot be said of the Directors Guild of America, which has announced those up for its own awards. Among those in contention? Parasite's Bong Joon Ho, Jojo Rabbit's Taika Waititi, Atlantics' Mati Diop and Honey Boy's Alma Har'el.

Of course, a lot of that diversity comes via the DGA's commitment to recognising the work of those making their feature debuts as directors, which helps bulk up their list to include more than the current awards front-runners. And notable by his absence? Joker's Todd Phillips.

The lists, then...

Theatrical Feature Film

Bong Joon Ho, Parasite

Sam Mendes, 1917

Martin Scorsese, The Irishman

Quentin Tarantino, Once Upon A Time In... Hollywood

Taika Waititi, Jojo Rabbit

First-Time Feature Film

Mati Diop, Atlantics

Alma Har'el, Honey Boy

Melina Matsoukas, Queen & Slim

Tyler Nilson & Michael Schwartz, The Peanut Butter Falcon

Joe Talbot, The Last Black Man In San Francisco

The winners will be announced on 25 January.
