The Welsh city of Swansea has launched a huge bid to try and win the rights to the showbiz wedding of the year between Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas. On hearing their own home-grown talent would be marrying the 55-year-old actor, they decided to take action to try and host the event which promises to be the wedding extravaganza of the Millennium.

Local council spokesperson Mel Edwards says, "It's obviously excellent news for Swansea, we don't know the arrangements yet but a few months ago we put together a booklet on all the facilities and the different advice on how to get married to simplify the process. We have taken the opportunity to send Catherine a copy of the booklet to help her with her marriage arrangements." Should they decide to marry in Swansea then all the guests will certainly be impressed with what they see and get a tremendous welcome here."

Zeta Jones is thought to be keen to marry in her birthplace, but the couple have yet to announce any decisions.
