Though DC Comics (and its Warner Bros. distributed DCEU) has yet to fully compete with the MCU outside of Wonder Woman's success on the big screen, the company has been crushing it on television, with a variety of interlinked shows. It is now launching a full digital streaming service, which has officially announced its name – DC Universe – and another of its planned shows, one based on the Swamp Thing comics.

Swamp Thing and his attendant characters were created by Len Wein and Bernie Wrightson, and they've been adapted several times for screens both big and small. The new potential show has a script-to-series deal, which means if the initial script is accepted, it'll be commissioned immediately. The people looking to make that happen include Mark Verheiden and Gary Dauberman, who will write that initial story and run the eventual show. James Wan, himself involved with a DC property via Aquaman will be an executive producer.

The drama follows what happens when CDC researcher Abby Arcane returns to her childhood home of Houma, Louisiana, in order to investigate a deadly swamp-borne virus. There, she develops a surprising bond with scientist Alec Holland — only to have him tragically taken from her. But as powerful forces descend on Houma, intent on exploiting the swamp’s mysterious properties for their own purposes, Abby will discover that the swamp holds mystical secrets, both horrifying and wondrous — and the potential love of her life may not be dead after all...

DC Universe's service will initially comprise live-action shows Titans (from DC show overlord Greg Berlanti) plus an animated Young Justice: Outsiders and Harley Quinn projects. There is also a planned live-action Superman prequel called Metropolis, but that one is being put back into the development oven for now.
