If you expected Luca Guadagnino to follow up Call Me By Your Name (call me! call me!) with another sun-dappled aching romantic drama, think again. The Italian director has taken a total left turn into horror territory with a remake of Dario Argento’s classic 1977 giallo Suspiria, and the first trailer has just been conjured online.

This version casts Fifty Shades of Grey’s Dakota Johnson as aspiring American dancer Susie Bannion, who gets more than she bargained for when she attends a prestigious German dance school led by Tilda Swinton’s Madame Blanc. Right from the first frame of the trailer, this is looking like a bold and respectful refresh of the original, with an oppressive atmosphere and some very impressive typefaces.

The film’s music comes from Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke, who’s following in the soundtracking footsteps of his bandmate Johnny Greenwood. Guadagnino’s Suspiria is produced by Amazon Studios, and while there’s no UK release date yet it’s hitting cinemas in America on 2 November. Here’s hoping for we won’t be far behind.
