There are differing opinions on whether she’s signed a final deal yet, but it does appear that German actress Antje Traue has landed the villainess role Faora in Warner Bros. new Superman pic, Man of Steel.

Variety brings word that Traue, last seen alongside Dennis Quaid and Ben Foster in Pandorum, has snagged the key evil role of the female Kryptonian who causes plenty of trouble for Henry Cavill’s hero.

There’s also some debate exactly what she’ll end up being called, since there are several Faora characters through the run of the Superman comics across the years. One was a man-hating type who mastered a Kryptonian martial art based on pressure points that could defeat the Man of Steel in a fight. Another was an aide to General Zod (who’ll be played by Michael Shannon in the Snyder film) and who was the inspiration for Ursa in Superman and Superman** I****I**.

A hat tip must be offered here to Latino Review, which has been getting the early word on lots of Super-details, including the female villain and the inclusion of Lois Lane (now to be played by Amy Adams).

Snyder’s getting ready to shoot this summer in Chicago with Cavill, Shannon, Adams, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane already in the cast. Superman: Man Of Steel (or whatever the final title might be) will be out around December 2012.
