Given the critical (and often, fan) reaction to Suicide Squad, you might be surprised to learn that Warner Bros. and DC are still pushing ahead with the sequel, but solid box office means it's bubbling away in development, with Gavin O'Connor on to direct. Now, The Hollywood Reporter brings word that David Bar Katz and Todd Stashwick are co-writing the script with O'Connor.

Nothing has yet been revealed about the story for the sequel, though it's likely to reunite the likes of Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn and Will Smith's Deadshot for another mission with the motley crew of super-powered criminals who are blackmailed into helping the government sort even bigger threats.

O'Connor has been at work on the film's script for a while, and now Katz and Stashwick will be adding their voices. As for when we might actually see the film, it had been loosely targeting a 2019 release, but that seems unlikely unless it gets moving within a few months.

Stashwick and Katz are the latest writers associated with the film, which has seen a treatment from Zak Penn and drafts by Anthony Tambakis and Adam Cozad.
