There was a time when the names Edward Norton and Robert De Niro above a title would be your signifier of quality. But with big Bob’s later years turning into a series of middling movies mixed with serious misfires and Norton making some odd choices himself, it’s our misfortune to report that their new collaboration, thriller **Stone{
Despite the presence of The Painted Veil’s John Curran directing, Stone’s trailer (spotted via The Playlist) makes it look like the most turgid kind of guff usually shuffled off to late night cable reruns and bargain buckets in defunct video stores.
We find crafty prisoner Stone (Norton) angling to win parole by playing mind games with an aging corrections officer (De Niro). Among his ideas? Letting his wife (Milla Jovovich) shag the widower so that he can blackmail him. But it would appear that everyone has their own agenda…

The film itself is now lodged in limbo thanks to US distributor Overture getting put up for sale, so who knows when we’ll see it over here (it doesn’t have a release date set yet). And when/if it does make it across the pond, we sincerely hope it’s better than this unimpressive advert makes it look.
