As he prepares to make his much-anticipated follow-up to the Oscar-winning Parasite, Bong Joon Ho has been building an excellent cast, including Robert Pattinson in the lead. He's adding a past collaborator to that ensemble, as Steven Yeun is now aboard.

Bong is writing and directing an adaptation of Edward Ashton's sci-fi novel Mickey7. The story follows the titular Mickey7, who is an Expendable: a disposable employee on a human expedition sent to colonize the ice world Niflheim. Whenever there’s a mission that’s too dangerous, even suicidal, the crew turns to Mickey.

After one iteration dies, a new body is regenerated with most of his memories intact. After six deaths, Mickey7 understands the terms of his deal… And why it was the only colonial position unfilled when he took it.

This being Bong, we can expect him to run the narrative through his own filter and come up with something fresh. In addition to Pattinson, the cast includes Naomi Ackie, Mark Ruffalo and Toni Collette. Yeun, meanwhile, previously worked with Bong on 2017's Netflix movie Okja.

Next up for the actor is Jordan Peele's Nope, which will be in UK cinemas on 12 August.
